Cutting Switchback's On A Trail

Dijukno you can get cited by a Forest Ranger for cutting switchback's on a trail?  A lot of money is involved in protecting our forest and public lands whether it is plant, and
animal life, or maintaining the trail system.  Folks have caused damaged to previously repaired portions of trails costing over twice the amount it should have for the initial repair.  I would also like you to take note that there are not enough paid employees to maintain the trail system so it's volunteer's who do much of the trail restoration, and maintenance.

Title 36: Parks, Forests, and Public PropertyPART 2—RESOURCE PROTECTION, PUBLIC USE AND RECREATION

(b) The superintendent may restrict hiking or pedestrian use to a designated trail or walkway system pursuant to §§1.5 and 1.7. Leaving a trail or walkway to shortcut between portions of the same trail or walkway, or to shortcut to an adjacent trail or walkway in violation of designated restrictions is prohibited.

Please follow Leave No Trace Ethics when enjoying the outdoors, and be prepared by using our printable Day Hike 10 Essentials Checklist.
